It’s that time of year again! On Saturday, October 31, 2026, ghosts, superheroes and princesses will be out knocking on doors across Kitchener, and the team at Kitchener Dentist Sherwood Dental wants to wish you and your family a very happy Halloween.
We love this holiday as much as anyone. Creative costumes, jack-o’-lanterns lighting up front porches, and the excitement on kids’ faces make it a fun night for the whole community.
Of course, Halloween also means a lot of candy. Here are a few simple habits that help protect your smile without spoiling the fun:
- Pick your treats wisely. Chocolate rinses off teeth more easily than chewy or sticky candy.
- Set a treat time. Eating a few pieces at once is better than grazing all day, because every snack gives cavity-causing bacteria another chance to work.
- Drink water. A few sips after sweets help wash away sugar and acid.
- Keep up your routine. Brush twice a day and floss once, especially before bed on Halloween night.
Parents, a good trick is to let the kids trade some of their candy for a small toy, a book or a special outing. Less sugar in the house, and nobody feels left out.
And when you’re out trick-or-treating, stay visible, stick to well-lit streets and check treats before anyone digs in.
