Same Day Dental Appointments in Kitchener
Same Day Dental Care in East Kitchener
Check-ups, cleanings, fillings and small repairs at our Krug Street office, often on the day you call.
Not every dental visit can wait three weeks for an opening. Maybe a filling fell out on the weekend, your night guard cracked, or you just moved to east Kitchener and want a check-up before a new job’s benefits kick in. Sherwood Dental on Krug Street offers same day dental appointments in Kitchener when the schedule has room, and it often does. Call 519-576-2170 in the morning and we’ll tell you what we can fit in today.
This page is about routine and non urgent care. If you’re in a lot of pain, have swelling or a knocked out tooth, go to our emergency dentist page or just call us right away.
What a same day appointment can cover
Same day doesn’t mean rushed. It just means you don’t have to wait. These are the visits people most often ask us to squeeze in:
- Check-ups and exams. A full exam with any X-rays the dentist needs, so you know where things stand.
- Cleanings, including AirFlow. Our hygienists use AirFlow, which cleans with a fine spray of warm water, air and powder. Many patients find it gentler than scraping alone, and it’s good at lifting coffee and tea stains. More on our teeth cleaning page.
- Fillings. A small cavity, a chipped filling or one that fell out can usually be fixed with a tooth coloured composite filling.
- Crown problems. A loose crown can often be cleaned and recemented. A broken one needs a temporary first.
- Denture repairs and adjustments. A sore spot, a cracked base or a tooth that popped off your denture.
- Night guard and sports guard questions. If your guard is cracked, loose or no longer fits, we can check it and take impressions for a new one.
- Consultations. Thinking about Invisalign, whitening, implants or replacing an old bridge? A same day consult lets you ask questions while you’re still motivated.
What gets finished in one visit, and what needs a second
Want to come in today? Call 519-576-2170 and tell us what you need done. We’ll be honest about whether it fits in one visit.
Plenty of things are done start to finish the same day: an exam, a cleaning, most single fillings, recementing a crown that’s still in one piece, small denture adjustments and polishing a rough edge on a tooth. You walk out with it handled. For a cleaning, plan on being with us a bit longer if it’s been a few years, since the hygienist may need more time.
Other treatment comes in two steps, and that’s normal. A new crown, a new denture, a custom night guard or sports guard all have to be made to fit your mouth, so the first visit is for the exam, preparation and impressions. You’ll come back once it’s ready. Larger jobs, like several fillings, root canal treatment or replacing a missing tooth, are usually planned after the first exam so we can book the right amount of time and talk through options with you. The same day visit still matters here. It gets the diagnosis done, deals with anything sensitive and puts a clear plan in front of you.
A few things we won’t rush
We won’t start a big treatment plan the same afternoon you first walk in unless there’s a good reason. You should have time to understand your options, check your coverage and decide. If you’re nervous about dental work, tell us when you book. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for anxious patients, explained on our sedation dentistry page.
How to book a same day visit
The phone is the fastest way. Openings come up when other patients reschedule, so the earlier you call, the better your chances. When you call, it helps to have:
- a short description of what’s going on and which tooth, if you know
- your dental insurance details, or your CDCP information
- a list of any medications you take
- when you can get to Krug Street today
If nothing is open today, we’ll offer the closest spot we have and suggest calling back later in the day, since openings do come up. You can also send a message through our contact page if it’s not something you need answered right now.
New patients are welcome
We see adults, teens and kids, so the whole family can come to one Kitchener office. You don’t need to have been here before. A lot of our same day patients are new to the office: people who just moved into Bridgeport or Rosemount, students home for a break, or families who haven’t had a regular dentist in a while. For a first visit we’ll ask a few health questions and take any X-rays the dentist needs, then go over what we find. Our first visit page explains what to expect.
Insurance, direct billing and CDCP
We bill most insurance companies directly. That means we send the claim for you and your plan pays us its share, provided your plan allows direct billing. Some specialist treatment may be handled differently, and we’ll let you know ahead of time if that applies to you.
We also see patients covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan. The details of what the CDCP covers can change, so check your own coverage on canada.ca, or ask us and we’ll help you look it up before treatment starts. For anything your plan doesn’t cover, we accept credit cards and cash.
Same day care close to home in east Kitchener
Sherwood Dental is at 501 Krug St, Unit 113. For people in Stanley Park, Bridgeport, Rosemount and the neighbourhoods along the Grand River, that’s a short trip, which makes it easier to come in on your lunch break or right after work. Call before you head out so we can have your chart ready and keep your wait short. If you work elsewhere in Kitchener, an early morning or end of day slot can save you from taking a whole afternoon off.
Same day appointment questions
Do you really have openings the same day?
Often, yes. It depends on the day and what you need. A cleaning or a quick repair is easier to fit in than a long appointment. Call early and we’ll tell you honestly what’s available.
Can I get a cleaning and a check-up together on short notice?
Usually. If there’s a hygiene opening, the dentist does the exam during the same visit. If not, we may do the exam today and book the cleaning soon after.
My filling fell out but nothing hurts. Is that urgent?
It isn’t an emergency, but don’t leave it for months. The tooth underneath is weaker without its filling and can chip or decay. A same day or next available appointment is the right call.
Can you repair my denture while I wait?
Small adjustments and some simple repairs, yes. A larger break may need to go out for repair, and we’ll tell you how long that takes before we start.
Is a same day appointment different from an emergency visit?
Yes. Emergencies, like severe pain, swelling or a broken tooth, get priority. Same day appointments are for care that you’d like done soon but that isn’t urgent.
